We really don't think it's a platcheirus, due to the wing stigma, possible wing cloud and slightly swollen hind femur,
also the yellow marking is on the wrong tergite and the wrong shape for rosarum, of course we could very well be completely wrong.
What it is, though, no idea. Possibly a dark form of something with reduced yellow markings.
Might be interesting to see what Anne says as she is far too modest to admit it but she is really rather knowledgable on Hovers.

That’s funny. I tried to get a photo of one of these at Shotesham but it flew up and away!!
It’s in the Pipiza noctiluca group. From past FB posts I have sent and see , they can’t be taken to species from photos …..
but you could try on the FB group page!!
